1. Who we are
Optimist Outlook is a content blog focused on positivity, mindset and personal growth. The site is owned and run by Chris Forbes. You can reach us any time at support@optimistoutlook.com. For the purpose of data protection law, Optimist Outlook is the data controller for the personal data described here.
2. What data we collect
Information you give us. Your name and email address when you subscribe to our list or use a form, plus the content of any message you send us.
Information collected automatically. Basic technical data such as your IP address, browser type and device, along with the pages you visit, where you arrived from and how long you stay. This is standard server and analytics data.
3. Legal bases for processing
Under the UK GDPR we process your data on these bases: your consent (for marketing emails and non essential cookies), our legitimate interests (to run and improve the site and keep it secure), and to meet our legal obligations. You can withdraw consent at any time.
4. How we use your information
We use your data to send you the emails you asked for, to reply to your messages, to understand and improve how the site performs, to keep the site secure, and to comply with the law. We do not make automated decisions that have a legal effect on you.
5. Sharing your data
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the trusted services that help us run the site, and only as far as needed. These include our email platform (AWeber), our hosting and content delivery provider (Cloudflare), our analytics provider (Google Analytics 4), and, where relevant, affiliate programmes such as Amazon Associates. Each of these has its own privacy policy.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use a small number of essential cookies that make the site work. We also use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used, which sets analytics cookies.
When you first visit, we show a cookie banner. Analytics cookies are only set if you choose Accept. If you choose No thanks, or simply ignore the banner, no analytics cookies are set and nothing is collected about your visit. The site works in full either way, so saying no does not limit your access. You can change your mind at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer, and you can also control or delete cookies in your browser.
Separately, if you click an affiliate link, the merchant (for example Amazon) may set its own cookie at their end so a qualifying purchase can be credited to us. That cookie is governed by the merchant's own policy.

8. Your rights
You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to ask us to delete it, to receive a copy in a portable format, to object to or restrict how we process it, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, email support@optimistoutlook.com. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
9. Data retention
We keep your data only as long as we need it for the purposes set out here, or as the law requires. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your data, we will remove it promptly, keeping only what we must for legal or security reasons.
10. Data transfers
Some of our providers may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision, so your data keeps a similar level of protection.
11. Data security
We protect your data with measures including encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls, and reputable providers that maintain their own security standards. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to keep your information safe.
12. Children's privacy
This website is not intended for anyone under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
13. California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you live in California, you have additional rights over your personal information: the right to know what we collect and how we use it, the right to request its deletion, the right to correct it, and the right to opt out of the sharing of your personal information for cross context behavioural advertising. We do not sell your personal information for money, and we do not knowingly share the data of anyone under 16 without consent.

14. Changes to this policy
